Pinoy Trending: Netizens Slams Coco Martin, Huwag kang OA

Rodel Pacheco Nacianceno, Coco Martin bared his anger over the government closure of ABS-CBN's broadcast operations, saying it has robbed many Filipinos of their entertainment, means of being informed, and their livelihood.
"Napakasakit ng ginawa ninyo sa mga Pilipino!" Nacianceno wrote.
"Pasensya na po dahil hindi ko na mapigilan ang sobrang galit na nararamdaman ko. Nakakapagod nang manahimik at magpigil kung ang mga nasa paligid mo naman ay mga walang-pusong tao," he said.
Nacianceno, 38, has been a Kapamilya star for nearly two decades since 2001. Now dubbed local showbiz's "Primetime King" who is also juggling producing and directing duties, Nacianceno has been credited for helping revive careers of former stars — a crusade that has unfolded for four years through "Ang Probinsyano."
In a subsequent Instagram post, however, Martin directly mentioned the NTC, as well Solicitor General Jose Calida, as being responsible for endangering the livelihood of ABS-CBN's employees — an estimated 11,000 but for DOLE it will be merely 5,000.
Nacianceno said.

Netizens understands Rodel Nacianceno, aka Coco Martin but his reaction was "Over-Acting". As he only voiced out what is beneficial for ABS-CBN in particular, his projects and personal issues for the network upon knowing its controversies for the passed 25 years. The network has been fishing sympathy for the public early this year. And no doubt it will go down to its employees and artists.
Journalie F. Payonan, ex camera man on his recent post narrates how ABS-CBN treats project employee or Talent within the network, without benefits and no security of tenure. As a camera man, He was a talent for 10 years and never had the chance for regularization, later claims he was illegally terminated from his work among a hundred employees. Payonan said that sympathy should not be asked from the public but rather ABS-CBN should abide what the law requires.
The network reported 11,000 employees but according to DOLE it's employees are merely 5,000. As explained, the difference were sub-contractors or talents that includes Payonan as a camera man. In 2018, a new guideline on contractualization has been passed that any job description deemed necessary for the operation of the business should have been regular employees. An example of which our camera man, reporters or the like in the case of ABS-CBN.
Jobert Sucaldito hits Coco Martin and ABS-CBN in using the 11,000 employees as human shield to ask for sympathy. Sucaldito also voiced out that he was also a victim of the illegal termination caused by the network.
SMNI News is also reminding the public that no one is above the law and it is our responsibility to know the law. Highlighted out was Nacianceno's anger on social media that some netizens are now accepting the challenge of Coco Martin for a boxing sparring match.
Netizens, has already expressed its dissatisfaction of Nacianceno and some of the ABS-CBN artists in various social media site. Others expressed that these individuals are only good on TV but brain-empty. Furhter Nacianceno aka Coco Martin should have solve his sentiments first to ABS-CBN and to whatever reason it has allowed the network to shutdown despite of the number of years of its application. And also did the network has settled its legal issues or this might be the reason it has long been resolved.

Weather: Filipinos remains strong as Typhoon Ambo Hits PH

The coronavirus pandemic is complicating Philippine efforts to move hundreds of thousands of people into evacuation centers where social distancing is hard to enforce as a strong typhoon hits through its eastern provinces.

Typhoon Ambo (Vongfong), the first to hit the country this year, intensified after slamming into the eastern Philippines on Thursday afternoon, packing winds of 155km (96 miles) an hour and gusts of up to 255kph (158 miles an hour), the state weather bureau said in a bulletin. (PAG-ASA)

Provincial and city governments, many of which are already strapped for resources due to the outbreak, are limited with logistical and space issues, with an estimated 200,000 people needed to be moved from their homes in coastal and mountainous areas because of fears of flooding and landslides.

The Philippines was bracing for the typhoon while trying to fight the outbreak largely by locking Filipinos in their homes and prohibiting gatherings that can set off infections. Many Filipinos remains positive of the situation.

PAG-ASA warned that "along with large swells, this storm surge may cause potentially life-threatening coastal inundation". | bp

Weather: Tropical Storm Ambo hit PH

Vongfong, known locally as Ambo in the Philippines, threatens that country, according to the forecasts from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center or JTWC. The storm is also the first of tropical cyclone of the Northwestern Pacific Ocean typhoon season.

A more rounded shape in a tropical cyclone indicates it is becoming a more organized storm. Infrared satellite imagery also indicated cooling cloud top temperatures, which means that cloud tops are extending higher into the troposphere. The higher the cloud top, the stronger the uplift of air in a storm, and usually, the stronger the storm.

PAGASA, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, the entity that issues forecasts and warnings for the country noted, "Between tonight and tomorrow (13 May) evening, Ambo (Vongfong) will bring scattered light to moderate with at times heavy rain showers during thunderstorms over Mindanao and Eastern Visayas. Between tomorrow evening and Thursday (14 May) evening, Ambo (Vongfong) will bring moderate to heavy rains over Eastern Visayas, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate. Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) #1 may be raised over Eastern Samar and the eastern portion of Northern Samar in the next 6 to 12 hours in anticipation of strong winds associated with the approaching ." World Trending: China Cover Up Coronavirus

Corona Virus, now COVID-19 started in Wuhan City of China reportedly in a wet market of exotic animals. Chinese government reports that its first case was on December 31. But classified record's suggest that it started in mid-November and about 200 cases at the end of 2019,  according to an investigative reporter Josephine Ma, China Editor - South China Morning Post.

Wuhan City with 11 million people has allowed at about 5 million to travel to-and-from Wuhan to celebrate Chinese New Year together with their families, weeks before Wuhan City lockdown on the 23rd of January. And surprisingly the world believed that China was able to control the situation and later realized that it already spread around the world, and started a global pandemic that spared no nation killing thousands of individuals.

Dr. Li Weliang
Dr. Li Wenliang, a whistle blower who got arrested when he tried to warned the public for the new corona virus at its early stage later died of the virus itself weeks later. Dr. Wenliang's death spreads around China and triggered individuals to seek for freedom of speech as the government is doing censorship regarding coronavirus stories. Communist party of China does not want the spread of rumors and authorities has concealed the truth to the public. And after four weeks of the first infection, China notifies the World Health Organization (WHO) of the outbreak.

While doing some research in Youtube, I found a recent documentary of a reporter in China Sebastien Le Belzic, entitled "A Quarantine Diary". An inside story how COVID-19 has affect China's capital, Beijing. It gives us an overview on China's way of preventing the spread of the virus. The lockdown was also affecting China's capital from all sorts of businesses. Nothing worst if your are leaving in a Communist country where there are clear oppression and no freedom of information.

Above all this; the quarantine and the series of lockdowns that is affecting the lives of the people but also to the economy of even the superpower nations. The underlying question will be, Did China really lied to the rest world? | bp

Pinoy Trending: SolGen Calida, to ABS-CBN Shutdown

ABS-CBN Shutdown is the hot topic in social media as many were baffled with numerous controversies behind of which; is how did the NTC has come up to the decision despite of the assurances given by Congress and the Supreme Court for them to issue a provisional authority.

The National Telecommunication  Commission, NTC was very strong in their mandate that they only executed the law, and it does not exempt ABS-CBN's franchise expiration, It is also unlawful for them to issue such provisional authority unless there is a legal franchise. While Congress is planning to file contempt to NTC, to include Solgen Calida for the said issuance of cease and desist order.

Solgen Jose Calida, has filed a quo warranto in the supreme court to disfranchise ABS-CBN and he advised NTC to file graft charges if when they will issue a provisional authority; hence, it is unconstitutional.

Who is Solgen Jose Callida?

Solicitor General Jose C. Callida, was appointed as the 48th Solicitor General of the Republic of the Philippines by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in July 2016.

His academic and track records has speak for himself as a man who walks the talk. SolGen Calida as one of the influential personality in the country will be facing against a giant network, its employees, families, and its supporters. The House of Representatives, and the Senate through Speak Alan Peter Cayetano questioned his actions towards NTC that could be possibly changed its decision to allow ABS-CBN to continue its broadcast.

ABS-CBN franchise has now become an urgent bill after it's expiration last May 5, 2020 as Congress wants to discuss matters in the next coming days amidst the rising COVID-19 cases in the Philippines. | bp

Food Trip: KASASILOG SA DANAO CITY!

Silog is a class of Filipino breakfast dish that has fried rice (sinangag) and fried egg. They are served with various viands (ulam) usually with meat dishes such as; tapa, longganisa or ham. The former three would be known as tapsilog, longsilog ang hamsilog.

Due to the popularity of this type of cuisine, some fast food chains in the Philippines and hotels have included "silog" on their breakfast menu. Tapsilog is the most ordered among silog items. Tap is the abbreviation of the word "tapa", a beef or pork that is marinated with salt and other spices dried out in the sun which is best served with native vinegar.

"KasaSilog", is Danao City's own version of tapsilog that originated from the most renowned Ms. Lynette Tapayan's  "Kasahos", carabao beef tapa located in Rizal St., Poblacion near the formerly known as "Sabungan" (cockpit). The new marketing strategy has make wave, as it makes Kasahos readily available together with sinangag and fried egg; a new option for Kasahos patrons who's always on-the-go.

Pinoy Trending: ABS-CBN SHUTDOWN

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has issued a Cease and Desist Order against ABS-CBN after its legislative franchise expired on May 4. The order dated May 5, The NTC directed ABS-CBN to stop operating its television and radio broadcasting stations nationwide due to absence of a valid Congressional Franchise that is required by law.

It's sad to know that a network that become part of your life will be out, nada...gone! Before the COVID-19 pandemic, as the Congress are closing its doors for a break, the network has no chance of having that franchise. Of course, there was limited time, and the Congress has a lot of urgent bills at hand.

Regardless how the Congress does it; the Solicitor General Jose Calida who filed a "quo warranto" petition for the network franchise's revocation pressured NTC for graft and corruption case if it grants a Provisional Authority to ABS-CBN prior to the opening of the Congress session last May 4, Monday.

However, the Federation of International Cable TV and Telecommunications Association of the Philippines (FICTAP) has requested NTC for its decision of the cease and decist order for the ground of operating channel(s) but having one franchise - to one channel only based on the original 1995 franchise; which is free to air and the public are not deemed to pay. ABS-CBN are operating KBO channel and other 5 channels under the Mahigawang Black Box or TV Plus in which the public has fees. The said renewal should have been "New Application" for other channels that ABS-CBN has been operating but what the network did apply is the "Renewal" of the 1995 franchise that FICTAP claimed to be manipulative on the side of the network. They just added "s" to channel, on the said application of renewal, making it channel(s) that is not the original 1995 franchise. During the other channels operation the cable industry was affected and their employees as well. FICTAP's complaint started way back 2014 up to present and is timely that NTC has to made a decision last May 4, for ABS-CBN's franchise expiration. Congress and the Supreme Court has not yet tackled about the franchise of the network, possible in the next coming days.

Very unlucky indeed..  but this is how it ends though the Congress has backed-up the network's operation even it expires.

What if the President is not Rodrigo Roa Duterte? Will this be a different scenario? Is ABS-CBN will be granted a provisional authority after its expiration date? Or there will be no issue or whatsoever with the franchise, like nothing happens?

This event, Most probably will raise to an issue of press freedom. And supporters would probably want to be heard, there would somehow be a call in the social media. A sympathetic propaganda for the defending press freedom, asking the ABS-CBN's franchise approval. And surely they will blame all these tactics to the President of the Philippines of abusing it's power or authorities oppressing the media entities; same with Rappler.

But... But.. But... For me, this is an eye opener. That political influence will no longer be substantial. And that any media network should abide what the law requires.

I felt sad to the number of employees, staff and to the ordinary workers that will be affected with the shutdown. I just hope that, the company will do its best to present themselves to the NTC, Congress, and the Supreme Court to seek for the approval of it's new franchise. The good all padrino days are now gone. We must be lawful and serve as an example. | bp

Food Trip: ECQ Cooking-Impelya

On Sunday's cooking, we will feature "Impelya".

It is a Visayan term for the certain part of the pork that is sold in our public market. I tried to research for the English description but couldn't find something in particular, so i just live it behind at the moment. If you have any idea, don't hesitate to drop by your  comment.

The ECQ, are testing are so-called "diskarte". They say only those who are street-smart will only have an edge of this quarantine to survive. Work are suspended and we have limited resources. So aside from being smart you need to be resourceful as well...this is what the coronavirus is teaching us.

In one of my visits in Minglanilla Public Market, I drop buy into a certain stall that offered intestines, liver and on other parts of the pig that was not being sold on a normal stall. I already bought "Bangus" and "Pork belly and Hocks". But I got interested into "Impelya", I remember my mother use to fry this and later take its oil. Compared to the regular pork meat, its cheaper sold at P50 per kilo. It's one fatty cooking I said to myself.

I bought 2 kilos and fried it at home. What amazed me, I was able to get around 500ml oil from it and mixed the fried ones into the fried noodles and "uyap" (salted shrimp). I haven't cook my pork meat yet, which I bought at P220 per kilo and my "bangus" at P200 per kilo. Three dishes for a much cheaper one. It may not be as healthy but for survival, why not?!

I'm interested now, to improve the "uyap+impelya" because it is more likely be a side dish with all other spices. "Kalas ug Kan-on" hahaha...

That's all for now on Sunday's Cooking... See you next week. | bp

Pinoy Health: Cebu City Heat Map

Add caption
"COVID19 Heat Map showing confirmed cases from different barangays within Cebu City.
Covid-19 cases in Cebu City is 879 and expected to rise substantially, because the city have conducted extensive contact tracing and targeted mass testing as per the directive of Mayor Edgardo Labella. It is imperative that all persons take precautions as if they are carriers of this virus. Many persons may be asymptomatic but infected (Silent Carriers). Staying at home and self-home quarantine are the most effective ways to limit transmission of this virus."
It's been Day 34 of Cebu City on Enhanced Community Quarantine but the early days of its implementation, the resident were not taking it seriously. Many violators of social distancing and some others are tying to play with the authorities.
Many were trying to pass through borders as per reported to Governor Gwen Garcia. And during the holy week, many were rushing in Carbon market to buy ingredients for "Binignit". Such indications were evident that some Cebuanos are hard-headed.
When Brgy Luz skyrocketed its confirmed cases, a call for city lockdown was raised  but only the brgy. has been on-lockdown. Some residents were trying to escape the lockdown and have gone to other barangays and municipalities, reports say.
If this is true. The mass testing would be one of the best solutions for the virus containment. We just hope that Cebuanos will be more cooperative this time.
While Cebu City and Cebu province are still on ECQ, we hope many will it seriously and be part of the solution. | bp

Opinion: Labor Day

Today is May 1, 2020; a National Holiday in the Philippines. But this year's celebration was different from previous years.

If we look back A year ago, militant groups will rally in Fuente Osmeña Circle in Cebu City. Mostly from PISTON, ALU-NUCP among others. It is a movement, a day of celebration. Expressing our sentiments to the government like wage increase, contractualization, labor laws and benefits.

With the ongoing Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) due to the coronavirus disease COVID-19, everything has changed. We are advise to stay in our own homes. The government does not allow gatherings, in which social distancing is strictly implemented. The authorities believed that containment will take long and sacrifices must be done, It needs our cooperation.

We hope that this will end soon. We understand that the government is doing its best. Digging -out all its resources to support the country. It is rightful indeed we give our share and our commitment that we are one on this fight.

We Heal As One!
