Pinoy Trending: Richard Gomez's Response on COVID-19 Goes Viral



RICHARD GOMEZ, MBA – The Ormoc City Mayor gone viral over his response to COVID-19 crisis.

"We cannot see our enemy. It’s a difficult kind of war this time. But what will save us now really is the discipline coming from people. If only people will follow what the authorities are saying – social distancing, stay at home, don’t linger with people – there’s a big chance the infection curve will go down,” he said in an interview.

Based on a viral post, The City of Ormoc decided to give one (1) sack of rice to every household since repacking and providing the household lists for 67,000 residents will take time. The City were able to distribute the food assistance in just four (4) days. Moreover, Mayor Gomez revealed that the fund for the food assistance were taken from the calamity fund, general fund and 30% of the development fund. According to him, if the ECQ will be extended, another one (1) sack of rice will be given to every household to prevent the people from going out.
“It’s been over a month already since the time we closed it. We’ve been very strict in allowing people to enter Ormoc City,” he said.

“I think this infection will not end anytime soon. There’s a very clear indication that we will continue our border control and our quarantine control in Ormoc City.”

Mayor Gomez gone viral because of its practical but effective approach on a global health emergency. COVID-19 pandemic has affected most of the families whose work operations have been stopped. Among those are under the "NO WORK, NO PAY" policy. Many of which have no savings and are dependent merely on the their income. Although Mayors have various relief operations, What the City of Ormoc have done was commendable for the netizens.

As of now, after a month of strict border control. The City of Ormoc is still COVID-FREE!
